Transfer to a U.S. Office with the L-1 Visa

Your guide to the intra company transferee visa for employees of multinational companies

The L-1 visa enables foreign employees of multinational companies to transfer to a U.S. branch, affiliate, or parent company. Whether you’re a manager, executive, or employee with specialized knowledge, the L-1 visa provides a path to work and potentially transition to a green card.

At Let’s Get Visa, we’re here to simplify the immigration journey – including helping you understand the L-1 visa process.

L-1 Visa Application Process

Here’s how the L-1 visa process generally works:

1
Determine Eligibility

Ensure you’ve worked for the company abroad for at least 1 continuous year in the last 3 years.

2
Form I-129 Filed

Your company submits a petition to USCIS on your behalf (or files a blanket petition if eligible).

3
Receive Approval Notice

If USCIS approves, you'll get Form I-797.

4
Abroad Visa Application

Submit DS-160, pay fees, and attend your visa interview at a U.S. embassy.

5
Enter & Work (U.S.)

Once your visa is issued, you may enter the U.S. and start working under L-1 status.
